So, We’ve got a concept. Now we need a ruleset.
Mind you, I won’t be deciding on the final concept before I have input from all of my players. So far, Bridget has voted for the Midnight Sun campaign, and there’s still a few more people to check in on.
So, rule set!
I think the rule set should come after a concept has been established. You want to find an RPG which will allow you to play the best version of your concept possible.
With all three of these settings, D&D Next works very well, and here’s some of the reasons we’ll be using it.
1. It’s easy. I’ve got two players who haven’t played in a long, long time, and I want them to be able to dive right in.
2. It’s got an old-school vibe. The players played back in the era of 0e and 1e. I hope to recapture some of that enjoyment.
3. It’s new! If we’re able to keep the campaign going through 2014, I’ll have a brand new rulebook for the players to use.
I look forward to diving into an original campaign with D&D Next (last time we played, we used the Caves of Chaos), and we’ll keep you updated.
Next time in Prepping the Campaign, we’ll talk about minis.
